In 2000, Convergence Data Services got its start as Structured Content which was a unit of Hearst Business Media. Structured Content provided outsourced content development services as an outgrowth of Hearst Business Media’s business of providing content to the Pharmaceutical, Automotive and Electronics industries. Structured Content performed several large content development projects and for one customer, produced a content database of one million records in less than a year. Structured content also provided data management and classification consulting services. These consulting projects lead to a need for software to assist with collaborative taxonomy development, data collection, organization, cleansing and publishing. In 2002, Hearst decided to split the business to concentrate on outsourced content development while Convergence Data Services continued with consulting and software development.
